History
Initially, Madrassah Taleemul Quran otherwise better known as “Leeds Rd Mosque”, situated in one of Lancashire's most deprived and segregated areas, Bradley ward, kicked off roughly in 2000 at 179 Leeds Rd. All thanks to a big hearted contribution from one pious old man - Haji Fazal Elahi Sahib - whom at the time ran a small launderette business for his bread and butter. However (after seeing the light!) he eventually gave permission to a small group of Muslims to convert his business outlet into a small place of worship where the Muslim prayer service could be established. Subhan’Allah (Glory be to Allah) what a bargain! Just see it this way, people brought their dirty laundry to the old man for washing and now people enter through the same doors to have their limbs washed, their hearts purified and their souls reinvigorated through the worship of Allah!
Since then, many individuals over the last decade or so – teachers, volunteers, congregants, parents and pupils alike, have put in the sweat and tears to build, what proudly stands today, as a progressive institute offering quality Islamic education, spiritual discipline and tarbiyyah to every man, woman and child. From those early days where there was only one part-time teacher, who probably couldn’t utter a word of English, and his small class of pupils, to the present day where class rooms are packed to full capacity over-spilling with many of our little shining stars, tutored by qualified teachers – this truly is progression in such little time. In short, it is nothing but a mark of excellence and the fruits of many people's hard labour – some old and some young, some still with us and some who have long left us – may Allah have mercy on their souls. Aameen.
Nelson Islamic Dawah Academy (NIDA) formerly known as Madrassah Talim ul Quran, was reformed in early 2011 to reflect the new vision of its congregants and the growth of the initial seminary that was set up in 2000.
Our aim is to build upon the this growth and remain committed to our ultimate which is to brighten the future of Nelson residents through the teachings of Islam – be they young or old, Asian or non-Asian, male or female and Muslim or non-Muslim – NIDA will serve you, regardless of your colour, age, gender, creed or sectarian affiliation ... We truly love you for the sake of God!
The sole intention of NIDA is to develop positive and upright leaders for tomorrow, who will serve their communities wherever they go. We aim to empower every Muslim to learn, act, & propagate the teachings of Islam in the footsteps of the noble Prophet (pbuh) and his companions, for this was the – source – and the very fountain of knowledge, that give rise to some of the great leaders, philosophers, thinkers, scientists, pioneers of civilisation and the unique personalities that history has ever witnessed. At the heart of this vision is quality education and returning back to the prophetic tradition.
The Academy will commence from the new building on Bankhouse Rd, where we intend to start many new educational classes, as well as, providing a better service to the local community. Below are some of the ideals that NIDA sets out to achieve (insha Allah): -
